Two entries in each category will represent New York at the NHD National Contest in June. These entries are named as National Qualifiers.

Third place in each category is named the Alternate. This entry becomes eligible to advance to nationals if one of the national qualifiers cannot participate.

Finalists are entries that advanced to the final round, or runoffs, at State History Day. (Some categories do not have a second round of judging.)
